The Projects

I am a travel writer and photographer. This blog began during my 2010 road trip across Canada, and I will continue to use it to chronicle my adventures.

The Blog
I don’t generally have the budget for leisurely trips. I like to see everything when I travel, or as much as I can, so as much as I try to update the blog while on the road, this isn’t always possible. I’m usually behind. But I’ll do my best to post while I travel and then write more complete updates when I get home.

The Thesis
I’m completing a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing, and my thesis is a travel narrative, tentatively titled Ferry Tales. It’s the story of my trip across Canada and includes autobiographical elements as well as historical and geographical information. It’s still a work in progress, but I hope to finish it by December 2011.

The Book
After the book is completed and the degree is earned, I will begin actively pursuing publication. If you or a publisher you know is interested in this project in the meantime, though, I would welcome any inquiries.

The Future
One of the greatest joys of travel is that the journey never truly ends. I am sure that the Canadian Road Trip will affect my writing for years to come. I’ve also used the photographs in photo books and calendars, and I’ve thought about writing a children’s book, too.

And of course, I can’t ever sit still. So even before I’ve finished my Canadian book, I’m off on my next adventure. In summer 2011, I will spend a month in the United Kingdom and France. After two weeks of class in London, I will stay for two weeks, exploring northern France and bits of Scotland and Wales with my mom. It’s an exploration of our heritage, and I hope that my second book is in there somewhere!

As you can see I am not good at checking email at home. Thanks thought, for this Sheila has been telling me about your beautiful pictures and the blog. I’ll be reading now. Are you almost home?
